THCKK recognizes 2 types of fake items (or
as my FBI friend says "counterfeit"):
1. Reproductions - Reproductions are
pieces duplicating items originally produced by the respective maker.
2. Fantasy Items -Fantasy items are pieces made that bear the
respective trademark which were never produced by that maker.
Your best defense against being ripped off by unscrupulous people who view your
collecting interest as a target to bilk you is education. Look at every item
with skepticism and objectivity. Learn to distinguish old manufacturing and
printing characteristics from new. In this section we will attempt to help you
objectively distinguish fake from authentic collectibles. We will give
guidelines to assist in your evaluation of items. We will show examples of
original and "reproduction" items we are aware of. We will show and describe
known "fantasy" items currently in he market place. We will listen to your input
and welcome your suggestions.
THCKK is always looking for pictures of hardware
companies' related fakes. If you have pictures, please send them along
with a brief description to the THCKK Webmaster,
webmaster@thckk.org.
Winchester
There are some excellent Web sites which have good pictures and great
descriptions on Winchester fakes. We would encourage you to review these
resources to learn more about what people are doing to fool the collector.
